Lead Ting Tings Singer Katie White smacks out a beat.

It's exceptionally early to be declaring the victor of the best show I've covered this year, but The Ting Tings at Southpaw just might take the cake for that certain prestige. The crowd was electric at Brooklyn's Southpaw on Friday night and with good reason. The Ting Tings quite frankly, rock.

The audience even seemed to know they would be having a great time before the UK twosome hit the stage. Why- you might ask? Perhaps it's because after the premiere of the now infamous IPod commercial featuring the single "Shut Up and Let Me Go", the band was immediately thrown into the US pop rock music scene with most everyone humming the tune the next day.

From the water cooler to the back room at the club (don't ask) everyone seemed to know that particular song. So as I stood, pad in one hand, camera in the other (Mike couldn't make it, so in this case my photography will have to do) the crowd seemed to anticipate and crave a night full of the funky pop groove of that one particular song. Hard to deliver on that one notion, The Ting Tings full on assaulted the crowd barely breathing for their near 40 minute set, outdoing any expectation a fan might have.

I try to always be near the front of the stage when covering a show and in the past year as that I've been doing this, I have never been thrown up against the stage as I hard as I was last night. People were bopping up and down like they were on imaginary pogo sticks.

The biggest shock for me, besides the fact that Southpaw looks a lot like my friend's basement, is that the song that got the most reaction wasn't "Shut up and Let Me Go", but "Great DJ", a lesser known single of the group's. Looks like ITunes making it the free song of the week helped A LOT.

As the Ting's grow more and more popular throughout the summer, make it a priority to see them in a smaller venue. Yes, the cramped, low AC'd atmosphere of Southpaw would be a turn off for most shows, but in this case, I felt like I was in a blended cross between that random orgy dance in "The Matrix Reloaded" and stuck in a jiffy pop wrapper.

It was quite sweaty and unexpected, but as the Ting's played on through their set, people just started popping. In the burning heat and energy of the music, you surely will respond too.

In a larger, more commercial, stadium like venue, I wondered if The Ting's could get their electricity out there as much as they did last night. With the determination and relentless zing they no doubt provide, I bet they could pull it off- but to get your money's worth, smaller is a lot better.
